A BANKRUPTCY INCIDENT

BEFORE THE CHIEF JUSTICE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. An application in bankruptcy in reference, to the estate of Edward Pawson, ot Dannevirke, bankrupt, was before His Honor the Chief Justice, Sir Robert Stout, to-day. A summons had been issued by the Deputy-Official Assignee ol the bankrupt's estate, asking for an extension of a caveat lodged against any dealings in some three hundred acres of Dannevirke land, on the grounds that the lands formed part of the estate of Pawson, who, it was alleged, fraudulently, and in conspiracy with others, dispossessed himself of them in order to defeat his creditors. In am affidavit filed by T. H. G. Lloyd, solicitor, of Dannevirke, it was stated that Pawson had gone away, that a warrant was out for his arrest, and that the alleged purchaser had given an altogether inadequate consideration for the lands, and was attempting to dispose of them to a third party for a large figure. His Honor directed the caveat to be extended till the hearing of the action to be instituted by the Deputy-Official Assignee to dispossess the purchaser of his supposed rights.
