A HEROIC MINER
RISKS HIS LIFE FOR A COMRADE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Received 24, 9.30 p.m. Perth, November 24. Two men, Brown and Young, were firing shots in the 300 ft level of the Senate mine. One went off before Brown had reached the ladder, and a piece of rock struck and injured him. Young jumped from the ladder, and was assisting his wounded companion to climb it when the second shot exploded. The flying stone injured Young's hip, but in spite >of his own injuries he presevered till he had placed Brown in safety. The task was the more perilous owing to the running fusilade of thirteen other shots exploding beneath them.
