Minister of the Interior, speaking in the Reichstag, in reply to an interpellation concerning dear meat, declared that the restrictions on the importation of cattle and meat could not he removed simply to meet the requirements of the Home market. Indeed, it was all the more reason for retaining them. The most effectual preventative of a real meat famine lay in the protection of Germany's ever-increasing stock-raising. Herr Seholemere remarked that the increasing price of meat over the greater part of Europe indicated the necessity for Germany to become independent of foreign supplies.
