THE HAWERA SHOW.

SECOND DAY. T!iu second Jay of the llawcra Slum was favored with glorious weather real "show weather'' —and consequently there was a record attendance of between 8000 and 10.000 people. Everything passed oil' smoothly and fully, a. result due largely to the completeness of the officials' arrangements. The ring events, as usual, created considerable interest. The jumping was of a high order —it is never anything else at llawera, for that matter —the only thing marring it being an accident to Master Ilastie hi the wire-jumping competition. His charge struck the first wire obstruction and fell badly, throwing :lie rider, who was rendered unconsicous. After medical attention he was taken away, but his injuries are not considered serious. All the ring competitions attracted very large fields, as many as 21 figuring in the wire-jumping and 1!) in the leaping. The judges iiai a difficult job in sorting out the winners. X. 51 .Paterson's Haere, ridden by A. Mitchell, was ultimately awarded the red ticket for both events —a most meritorious performance. That splendid horsewoman, Miss Ethel Abbott, scored a win in the ladies' riding contest and also in the dual jumping. In the high jump .T. O'Sullivan's Utiku, ridden by i\ Iligginson, scored, after some fine jumping had been provided. The remaining liorse classes were judged. These were much better -filled than last year, whilst the quality, in both heavy and light, was probably superior to anything yet shown on the Hawera ground. Indeed, in this respect, tile exhibition compared favorably, ill! the opinion of competent judges, with the best shows of the North Island. The principal exhibitors in the draught classes were E. Short (Waituna), J. S. Ougliton and F. A. Bremer (the wellknown Okaiawa breeders), and Jas. Grant. Their exhibits furnished an important feature of the show. The prizes in the lighter sorts were well distributed.

The side shows, and they were legion, did great business, particularly with the younger element. The home industries iiall, which contained an unprecedentedly high number of exhibits of exceptional interest, was packed, almost to suffocating point, all the afternoon. The butter-fat and dairy herd competions results were available yesterday, R. D. Harkness, of Xg.iere, winning the first prizes of £S 8s and £lO 10s, with specials in both. Competing as he did with the pick of the best animals in South Tarannki, his victory was most meritorious. In the milch cow classes, the Jerseys were dominant, D. Watkin, R. .T. Linn and Dr. Xoonan obtaining firsts. J. C. Montefiore and McDonnell Bros, were also successful. Following are particulars of yesterday's prize list: — MILCII COWS.
