ARBITRATION 'COURT. By Telegra|»l».—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. At a meeting of tin- Canterbury Carpenters' and Joiners' ["nion. held toniglit. it was resolved to nominate Mr. 11. R. Rushbridge for the position "of acting-workers' representative 011 the Arbitration Court.

A " SLIPPERY " BUSINESS. Wanganni, List Xight. " A young man named A. E. Slipper was to-day senteneed to three months' imprisonment for false pretences. H P had devised a unique scheme for obtaining money, but it was discovered Wr the pt£ lice before he had profited to any extent. His modus operandi was to send a letter to a person, the address of whom he had found in the directory, asking him, if he were the man addressed, to" forward a certain small sum of money, when a registered parcel would be sent to him. The letter was signed, "Stray Parcels Agency." When the police raided the man's house, they secured twenty-seven letters, while fifty-one more came to the post office afterwards, and postal nodes to the value of £3 18s 2d were secured.

THE MARLBOROUGH SHOW. Blenheim, List Night. The Marlborough Agricultural and Pastoral Association's annual show was concluded to-day in glorious weather, lhe show was very successful. The feature of the day was the success of the Rev. Father Holley in gaining prizes in the hackney classes for saddle and harness pairs and single harness, and also champion hack.

A SOLICITOR'S AMENDE. .... „ Auckland. Tuesday. At the S.M. Court to-day, a case' affecting Mr. C\ J. Schnauer, solicitor, was called. Mr. J. R. Reed appeared for Mr. •Schnauer and stated that he understood that that gentleman was called upon to show cause,why he should not be committed for contempt of Court for having made use of words to .the effect that some action of his Worship was unfair. He wished to state at once that Mr. Schnauer had no intention whatever of committing contempt of Court. He had practised some time now in Auckland, and there had never till the present occasion been any friction between him and the Bench. The whole of the trouble aiose out of a misapprehension The Magistrate (Mr. Kettle) said that he was quite satisfied to accept the assurance oh behalf of Mr. Schnauer, that . he had acted under a misapprehension, and had no intention of committing contempt of Court. He was sorry that the incident had happened, and glad that it was now closed.
