SUPREME COURT.
AUCKLAND SESSIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Wednesday. At the Supreme Court to-day William Smith was found guilty of stealing a watch and was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. Two residents of Waihi, Thomas Barraclough and Henry McQuane, were charged with committing perjury at the Magistrate's Court, Pae10a, on September 22. The jury returned a verdict of guilty and both accused were remanded till next morning.
TWO YEAR'S FOR BIGAM^. Wellington, Wednesday. The youth William Watkins, on a charge of bigamy and false declaration the Marriage Act, came before the Chief Justice to-day for sentence. His Honor said he could not see his way grant probation. This was a serious thing for a woman. Prisoner's character had not been good, and he had given way to drink. Sentence would be for two years, to run concurrently with the sentence prisoner was already serving for failing to find sureties to keep the peace towards the second woman he married. DUNEDIN SESSIONS. Dunedin, Last Night. Gilbert Scott, formerly a clerk in the employ of the Bruce County Council, was acquitted at the Supreme Court to-day on a charge of fraudulently omitting to enter money received by him on behalf of the Council with intent to defraud. The jury was absent from the Court for a quarter of an hour. Accused was then formally charged on three other similar indictments, and he pleaded not guilty. The Crown offered no evidence, and accused was found) jiot guilty. Robert Searle was charged with criminally assaulting a married woman at Waipori, the case for the Crown c!osini; when the Court adjourned.
