MONTHLY MEETING. The meeting of the Taranaki Education Board was continued at the Board's i<>!lke yesterday morning, all tile niemI bers being present. FINANCE COMMITTEE'S REPORT. Tiie report of the Finance Committee was adopted as follows: Ngaere.—The committee was allowed a grant of 30s towards a fence. Kent Road, —Drain pipes to be supplied as requested. Koru. —The teacher is to be informed that the Department has granted funds to erect a wash-liouse and bath rooms. Waitara.—The Board regretted that it <?ould not see its way to paint the school this seasoH, as so many other schools are in a worse condition. New Plymouth.—Application is to be made to the Department for £ for £ subsidy up to £lO for miniature rifle range now completed. Ratapiko.—Matter of subsidy for drains was- left in the hands of Mr. Trimble and matter of other alterations was left in the hands of the chairman. Opunake.—The account for filling and fencing was passed for payment. TENDERS. Tenders for painting were accepted as follows:—Bell Block, Louis De Launay, £8 ss; Carrington Road, 0." Le Page, £l9; Huiroa, H. Peterson and Co., £lO 10s; Kahui, C. W. Hooker, £10; Pohokura, C. W. Hooker, £9 10s; Puniwhakau. C. W. Hooker. £lO 10s; Ruapuka, Belli-insrer Bros., £l3 10s; Tututawa, C. W. Hooker, £18; Uruti, C. W. Hooker, £ll 10s; Waitara, Louis De Launay, £9 10s; Waitui, Louis De Launay, £7 15?. Tenders for the Ackland, Okau and Wliangamomona schools were left in overseer's hands to deal with. INSPECTOR'S REPORT.
The Chief Inspector (Mr. W. A. Ballantyne) reported on various matters referred to hi-tn at the last meeting oi the Board. Huiakama.—He recommended that a subsidy of £ for £ up to £2 be granted from the manual or technical funds towards the school • agricultural class. Waitara.—ln connection with an application for a skylight in the infants' room at Waitara, he had visited the school and there was no doubt the room was badly lighted. The only way to give extra lighting was by carrying out the suggestion of the Board's overseer. viz., putting in a skylight on the south side. Stratford.—While at Stratford he met two members of the visiting committee and discussed the question of painting the Stratford Technical school. As a result he recommended that the Board subsidise £ for £ any sum raised locally by the committee towards the cost of painting. Tongaporutu.—He recommended that a halftime school be established in the hall on condition that the hall trustees accept a rental of 5s per week. If established, this school would be attended by at least 12 children who at present attend no school. Uruti.—ln regard to a petition for a new school at Mt. Messenger, he had no recommendation to make. At the same time he should like to call the Board's attention to the particulars sent' in which were very inaccurate and misleading.
