AMUSEMENTS.

BALLOON ASCENT TO-MORROW.

Tiie Beebe Balloon Company, who will give a sensational and thrilling ballooning exhibition at the Sports Ground tomorrow afternoon, in connection with the Suratura Tea Balloon Carnival, claim that a total of more than 500,000 people attended the 23 exhibitions given by them in Melbourne, Victoria. At one time it was a popular belief that people need not enter the enclosure to witness a balloon ascent, and while this was partially true a few years ago, it is far from being a present-day fact. The many important features in connection with a modern ballooning exhibition, such as the inflation of the huge balloon, views of the parachute, folded and expanded, the method by which these appliances are tested and attached to the balloon, and many other interesting items, of which nothing can be seen when the aeronaut is a mile in the air, constitute more than half the pleasure and excitement of the entertainment. The Company's appearance in New Plymouth is limited to the one performance to-morrow, and they will leave by the mail train on Friday morning direct for ellington, to open their season in the capital city.
