BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ADJOURNED MEETING. The 'Council met last night, when there were present: Ilis Worship the Mayor (Mr. G. Tisch), Crs. E. Dockrill, F. C. Bellringer, F. Wilson, J. West, A. E. Watkins, J. Clarke, 11. J. Gilbert, G. W. Browne. THE ABATTOIR DISTRICT. In regard to tile extension of the New Plymouth abattoir district, so as to include the St. Aubyn town district, a letter was read from the secretary of the Department of Agriculture, Commerce and Tourists, stating that, as 110 objection to the extension was being made by the Town Board, an agreement should be drawn up as provided by the Slaughtering and Inspection Act, and the terms submitted to the Department for approval.—Agreement to be drawn as suggested. The .Minister of Agriculture wrote, agreeing to the proposal to include a portion of the Taranaki County in the New Plymouth abattoir district. THE NEW LEASING BILL.
The Hon. T. Kelly, in forwarding a copy of the New Plymouth Recreation and Racecourse Reserve Amendment Act, 1910, which had just passed its third reading in the Council, congratulated the Council on the passing of the Bill.—The Hon. 0. Samuel and Mr. Okey, M.P., also forwarded copies of the Bill.
EAST END BATHING. Cr. Bellringer drew attention to a nuisance occasioned at the East End Bathing Reserve through the swimming of liorses to the detriment of the bathers. He also asked for the use of the Council's lamps on the occasion of the carnival on Thursday evening, and extended an invitation to the Council to be present.—The engineer was instructed to deal with the former matter, and the loan of the lamps was 'granted.
NOTICE OP MOTION. Cr. Dockrill gave notice of motion for next meeting as follows: — "(1) That the Hon. the Minister of Internal Affairs be requested to withhold liis consent to the request of the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to raise funds for the building of a new hospital and the purchase of a new site, and removal of the Old People's Home, until a more equitable system is devised by the Government for raising the funds than at present exists. '•'(2) That as the present system of electing the Board takes away representation from the contributing bodies, it is more just and equitable that the onus of 'raising funds should devolve on the Board.
"(3) That this contributing body absolutely objetcs, and considers the position utterly unfair, that they should be compelled to find funds for a separate and distinct Board over which they have no control."
MISCELLANY.
The sexton (Mr. E. Hunt) applied for assistance in his work, as he could not keep pace with it at present.—The engineer to be empowered to employ labor when required.
The Rev. P. G. Evans wrote, drawing the attention of the Council to the condition of the drains within the racecourse boundary and the channelling in John street, opposite sections 1754, 1756 and 1756, now in liis occupation. The writer understood that the drainage arrangements made by the Council were quite adequate to deal with the heaviest rainfall, provided the drains and channels were periodically attended to; but this was not being done, and the heavy Tain of last week had caused damage to his garden.—The engineer haa attended to tlie matter.
Geo. Back wrote re crossing, and apologising if he had offended the Council in any way; and asking if the Council would kindly replace the crossing.—The engineer to deal with the matter to the best advantage.
