IS CRIPPEN GUILTY?
A FAREWELL MESSAGE. 3y Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, November 20. Crippen, whose execution is fixed for Wednesday, in a farewell message to the public, published by Lloyd's News, asserts that facts after his death will prove his innocence. A New York message of November 9 states that more people are coming forward with the declaration that Bello Elmore, the professional name by which Crippen's wife was known,„ is still alive. On top of the announcement of a Philadelphia lawyer that he has received letters from persons who have seen Mrs. Crippen, comes that of a Chicago attorney, who asserts that he has strong proofs that the woman is alive. Another Chicago man, a wrestling promoter, also avers that Belle Ellmore is still in the flesh. Then there is the wife of a millionaire of Hammond, Indiana, who has handed the local police a note which was picked up in a hotel, and which purports to give Belle Elmore's address. The State Department in Washington does not contemplate taking any action regarding these reports. Even if any affidavits are sworn and forwarded to the department, they will be referred to either the British Embassy or the English Consul in Philadelphia, as the case is considered to be solely within the jurisdiction of the criminal courts in England.
