MOA ROAD BOARD
MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Moa Road I Board was held at the Board's office, j Inglewood, on Saturday, when the following members were present: —Messrs ! 11. Trimble (chairman). M. F. Anderson, W. P. Bishop, J. Collingwood, R. T. Williams, J. Williams, A. E. Lawrence, A. Corkill and F. J. Virgin. SAWMILL TRAFFIC. Mr. W. G. Reid, secretary of the New Plymouth Sash and Door Factory Co., referred to the excessive levy charged for carting timber to the Junction-road from the company's Egmont-road mill, and stating that they refused to pay more than y s d per 100 ft in future in view of the fact that they now paid 2d per 100 ft to the Taranaki County Council over a much larger distance—The matter was left in the .hands of the chairman to report on at next meeting. Mr. C. E. Dobson, Kaimata, wrote drawing attention to Everett-road. Waste timber had been thrown down anywhere, with blackberries growing up amongst it, and six-inch nails sticking up in the rails 1 and sleepers, making it dangerous for stock. The timber should be stacked and burned.—Resolved to write to Mr. Surrey, to whom permission had been given to lay the tramway, requesting him to clear away the rubbish.
DAVIS ROAD. Mr. W. B. Fussell, clerk of the Waitara West Road Board, wrote asking for an estimate of the yearly cost of maintenance of Davis-road, and if it would be possible to allow the contribution to stand over until next year, as the Board was anxious to expend the rates in grading the road. —Received.
A BROKEN CONTRACT.
After a long discussion as to the position of the Board in the matter of the contract with Mr. Linklater for breaking metal on the Motukawa-road, it was resolved, Mr. Corkill dissenting, that Mr. Linklater be relieved of his contract.
THE MANGANUI BRIDGE. In to no provision being made on the Estimates for the Manganui bridge, the chairman reported that he had telegraphed to the Minister of Public Works as follows:—"Regret no provision on Estimates for grant in aid of building Manganui bridge, Bristol road. Trust that in view of the expensive and substantial nature of the work you will see your way to give some assistance on Supplementary Estimates." NORFOLK ROAD WEST. Twenty-eight ratepayers in the Nor-folk-road West special rating district requested the Board to make and levy for one year a special rate of y 3 d in the £ over the whole of the property of the Norfolk-road West special rating district for the purpose of repairing Norfolk-road West, the area to be the same as that over which the special rate was levied last year.—Steps were taken tt> give effect to the petition at a special meeting of the Board. TI-IE BIRD NUISANCE.
On the motion of Mr. Corkill, seconded by Mr. R. T. Williams, it was agreed to offer a reward of 6d per head for hawks' heads, and that the Taranaki County Council and the Acclimatisation Society be asked to take similar action.

Thomason, 3s 7d; Mangaone, 150 yds boulders, L. Bishop. 4s lOd; Norfolk East, 100 yds boulders, j. Butler, 3s; Norfolk A\est, 250 yds boulders, A. Douch, 3s 2d; Ratapiko, 100 yds boulders. L. Bishop, 7s sd; Ross, 60yds boulders, A. Douch, 4s Od; Rugbv. 50vds boulders, A. Douch, 3s; Suffolk, 40yds boulders, J. Butler, o.s; Dudley West, 70yds shingle, •J. T. MOTUKAWA HILL. Resolved, that 200 yds on top of Motukawa Hill be taken oft' and carted into the hollow, and the road formed and metalled; the balance of monev, if any, to be expended in metalling near Crowe and Price's; the metal to be broken in the quarry and the work done under the supervision of the foreman. GENERAL.
The bridge on Upland-road North is to be shortened, and tenders called for the supply of 84yds of broken stone to be delivered on Bishop's Hill. Mr VT. E. Rrcival, secretary of the Maketawa Dairy Factory Co., applied for permission to put in two 10ft crossings over the water-table on the Durham West road, to give access to the creamery now being erected on the corner of Durham and Bedford roads.—Granted. Hr. Chamney, Motukawa-road,' waited on the Board and asked that the tunnel outlet on Ins property be protected as in its present condition it was dangerous tor stock.—lt was resolved that the foreliinn attend to the work.
The special order re Ratapiko special late was duly confirmed. The clerk "was instructed to write to tiie ._.uh and Loor 1-actory Co. and Mr Schumacher re putting in new cl . o , sill „, over the Kaipi water-tables. °
ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £BB 3s 8d were passed for payment.
