CYCLING.

A cycle road race from New Plymouth to Waitara and back, promoted by Mr. A. George, was held on Thursday afternoon. Twenty-four cyclists started. -The finish was very close, only a few seconds dividing the first three men, who were as follow: —R. Renner (handicap Bmin), riding time 64min., 1; S. George (3min.), 59%min., 2; J. Manu (Omin.), 62y 2 min., 3. The three scratch men had an exciting race for the fastest time prize. They kept together right through, and made a great sprint at the finish. J. Adlam won, just beating W. Roebuck by a wheel, with M. Julian very close up, third. Adlam's time was 57y 2 min., which beat the previous record for the road, 59min., made by Wann, of Eltham.
