THE GRAIN MARKETS. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. Received 18, 7.55 p.m. London, November 18. The wheat market is steady and inactive, closing very firm. On the adverse rumors regarding the Argentine crop, and the higher American quotations, farmers throughout the world are disinclined to sell. A car'go of Australian sold at 35s 6d. Holders are asking 36s for wheat afloat, and January- February shipment. The price of 35s to 35s 3d was paid for parcels of November shipment. There is very limited demand for spot Australian, at about 36s Gd, and New Zealand best 32s 6d to 33s 6d, inferior 30s. Flour —In poor demand, 26s to 26s 6d; spot, 24s (3d to 24s 9d, c.i.f. Oats—Quiet; Gartons, 17s 6d to 19s 3d; sparrowbills, 17s to 18s 6d; La Plata November-December, 12s 9d. Barley—ln fair demand. Chevalier's, 28s to 31s.
BANK OF ENGLAND RETURNS. Received 18, 9.10 p.m. London, November 18. The Bank of England returns for the week ending Wednesday last are as follow: Reserve, £24,891,000. Gold coin, £33,588,000. Note circulation, £"28,523,000. 'Public deposits, £10,076,000. Other deposits, £37,433,000. Government securities, £14,644,000. Other securities, £25,732,000. Proportion of reserve to liabilities. 52.36. THE PRICE OF METALS. Received 18, 9.10 p.m. London, November -18. Copper —Spot, £77 12s 6d; three months, £SB lis 3d. Tin—Spot, £166 10s; three months, £166 12s Cd. Spelter, £24. Iron, £2 9s 6d. THE WOOL MARKET. Received 18, 9.10 p.m. London, November 18. The Bradford wool market is quiet, and prices are unchanged. The Antwerp sales have closed. Prices were irregular, but were generally five per cent, below the September series. Six thousand nine hundred bales of La Plata were offered, aand 2939 sold. ' BRITAIN'S WHEAT YIELD. Received 18, 9 p.m. London, November 18. It is estimated that the wheat crop of Great Britain is 7,604,000 quarters. DAIRY PRODUCE MARKET. Received 18, 9.10 p.m. London, November 18.. The butter market is hardening. Danish, 116s to 118s; choicest New Zealand 110 s to 112s; Australian, unchanged. Choicest is meeting with an improved demand, but there is limited enquiry for inferiors and stored. Cold weather is stimulating the market, and the tone is better all round.
