A court-martial at Sheerness found Captain Edward Fitzherbert guilty of neglect in allowing the Bedford to be stranded at Quelbeck Island, and dismissed him from his ship, the Pembroke, whereon he has since been serving, and severely reprimanded him. H.M.S. Bedford was a first-class cruiser built in 1901. While carrying out trials at full speed she ran ashore on the island of Quelpart, in the China Seas.
