HIGH SCHOOL BOARD
MONTHLY. MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Board was held in the secretary's office yesterday afternoon, when there were present: Messrs. N. K. MacDiarmid (chairman), M. Fraser, S. Percy Smith, E. Dockrill and A. H. Glasgow. Mr. Marcliant wrote, resigning his position as ranger on account of proposed legislation providing that the duties for the School Commissioners shall be administered by the Land Board.—lt wat resolved that Mr. Marchant be asked to state the terms upon which he would be agreeable to act. The secretary was instructed to write to Stratford and Waitaki High Schools in regard to the agricultural syllabus in use. Resolved, that a magnalium balance be purchased for the science room. The chairman's action" in fixing the breaking-up ceremony for December 16 was confirmed. A cupboard and rack for the cadets rifles is to be placed in the end of the, large classroom. j In reference to the principal's letter, re fees lost to the Board by pupils leaving before the end of the term, and irregularity of attendance, it was decided to appoint Messrs. Fraser and Glasgow as a committee to confer with the principal and report to a future meeting. ( In accordance with the Board's resolution, a list of tuition fees and rents was laid before the Board, and it was resolved that those in arrears must be paid by the next meeting, or they will be placed in the hands of the Board's solicitor for collection. The chairman reported that good progress was being made with the laying of the new asphalt tennis courts; and also that: arrangements had been made to clear all furze, blackberry and fern from the school reserve. Accounts amounting to £IBB 13s Id were passed for payment. The next meeting of the Board will be held on December 14.
