CRICKET
NORTH TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. A meeting cf tlie North Taranaki Cricket Association was held last night in Messrs. Webster and MeKellar's rooms. Present: Messrs. Whittle (W'aitara), in the chair, and Williams, Nicoll and Johns (New Plymouth), Periiam and Avery (Carrington Road), Turnbull (Law), Wills (High School), and Gwillim (Athletic). Letters from Manawatu, Wanganui and Nelson associations, with regard to matches during Christmas week, were read and discussed, as also was letter from the New Zealand Association with regard to the Hawke Cup. The New Zealand Association wrote that it was proposed that entries from Poverty Bay, North Taranaki, Taranaki. Wanganui, Rangitikei, Manawatu and Wairarapa, in the North Island, and Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, W 7 est toast, South Canterbury and Southland, in the South Island, be solicited for two competitions one in the North Island and one in the South Island. The winners' of each competition will play off to decide who shall hold the cup for the first season. It was resolved to enter a team froin North Taranaki, and to write the New Zealand Association that the tournament be held ;\t Palmerston North (as suggested bv the Manawatu Association) during Christmas week. The secretary was instructed to write Manawatu and Wanganui of the Association's decision in the matter. A letter was read from Mr. G. T. Weston regretting his inability to act as the Association's delegate on the New Zealand Association, as he already represented Wairarapa. He suggested that Mr. T. W. Reese be appointed, and Mr. Reese was accordingly appointed. With regard to the proposed re-draft-ing of the Association's rules, the secretary reported having obtained copies of the rules of the Auckland, Wellington and Canterbury Association's rules. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. Williams, Nicoll, Southall and Turnbull, was appointed to draft rules from the data obtained. It was resolved to allow the schools the use of the Association's matting for the schools competition. Mr. Perham was instructed to obtain pegs for the Association's matting, such pei'gs to be fastened to the matting. With regard to the Thursday fixtures, some discussion arose as to which were the "liome" matches. It was resolved that the home matches be those of the team mentioned first in the list of fixtures as published. It was suggested that any senior players able to do so should offer their services as umpires in the school matches. A vote of thanks to the chairman concluded the meeting. LAW v. EGMONT VILLAGE. In the first innings they were disposed of for 37 and. after United Service had made 148, replied with 98, thus being beaten by an innings and 13 runs. In the Egmont Village—Law cricket match on Saturday, Greatbatch was bowled first ball in the first innings. In the second innings he had his revenge. lie cut open the head of one bowler, and another escaped a similar fate by dropping smartly to the ground. Then he drove a ball so far into the outfield that it is "lost and gone for ever," and upon another ball being brought he sent tliat away, too, and it wasn't found for about five minutes.
