SLY GROG SELLING
OLD AGE PENSIONER FINED. By Telegraph.—Preas Association. Wellington, Last Night. John Simons, an old age pensioner, aged 77 years, was charged with having unlawfully sold whisky on Sunday, October 30. Whilst walking in Adelaide road, two police probationers, both unknown to Simons, asked if he knew where they could get a nip of whisky. Defendant' said he did not, but liad a -small supply at home for medicinal purposes. He would give them a nip. The probationers were given a small mineral water ' bottle of whisky, for which they paid defendant half a crown. Simons said the men forced the money on him, but the probationers said ha named the sum. "Yours is quite an ex. traordinary case," said the Magistrate; "Apparently your hospitality got you into trouble.
