An adjournment had to be made at one stage on account of the rain, but the weatlier improved later, and there was an attendance of 13,000. Strieker, whose hand was injured onFriI day, was able to play. Pearce fielded as ! substitute for him.

Sherwell was easily missed at point by Laver off Armstrong, but afterwards was finely caught at deep field. Nourse began luckily, two uppish balls falling safe. Zulch was finely caught in the slips in the third try. Faulkner was missed at leg by Warne off Hazlitt, and in the slips "by 'Hazlitt off Laver at 16. Both were difficult. At the tea adjournment the score stood at nine for 176. Thirteen were added, and then Vogler was bowled by Matthews, who bowled well.

The -wicket was rolled and was good for the opening of the Victorian innings. Vogler opened the bowling. Smith was foolishly run out. Fifty appeared in 40 minutes' play.
