STRATFORD DAY BY DAY
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Saturday. Messrs. C. Speck and C. Campbell, members of the Stratford Rifle Club, who have been on a visit to Australia, returned home last night. The Denbigh School concert will be held on Thursday next. The police have a clue to the man who assaulted Mr. Blair, sen., the other evening, and a warrant has been issued for the man's arrest. A verdict of accidental death was returned at the inquest on William Meir, who was killed at Puniwhakau on Thursday through a fall of sandstone in a quarry. Details of the accident show that he heard the fall coming, and in running away tripped and fell, with the result that he was pinned by the sandstone. He had both legs broken, and received abdominal injuries. He lived for a couple of hours after the accident. He belonged to Inglewood, and only began work on Tuesday. The jury added a rider protesting against the action of a medical man in demanding his fee before making the trip.
