Richard Arnst, the world's champion, sculler, arrived in Hobart by the Ruapehu, states a Press cable. Mr. B. Dive, M.P., writes us that the rumor that he had decided not to contest the Egmont seat at next election is absolutely without foundation.
A London cable message states that Prince Henry of Battenberg's second sou is a passenger by the Omrah, on ln» way to tour Australia and the world. An old Wellington resident, Mr. William Tucker, died on Thursday, aged seventy-five years. He leaves a widow and eight children, five sons and three daughters.
Lieutenant-Colonel A. Bauchop, C.M.G., Officer Commanding the Wellington District, leaves for England, via Sydney, on Friday next, en route to the Staff College at Camberley, to which he will be attached for the staff graduated course.
Mr. Alfred Clark, who has filled the position of postmaster in Lawrence for the past six years, retires at the beginning of the coming year after 40
years' service. He joined the Postal Department in 1871 as messenger at Kaiapoi.
The death ioceurred at Addingto!) on Friday morning of Miss Maude Pepperell, second daughter of Mr. L. Pepperell, of the railways goods office, Christehurch, and formerly of New Plymouth, and sister of Mr. L. Pepperell, of the New Plymouth Post Office staff.
