DISTRICT NEWS.

LINCOLN ROAD. The school committee selected Miss M. D, Steel, of Dunedin, as teacher on Tuesday night, it is to be hoped the appointment will be in the best' interests of the district.

The majority of settlers I have questioned say the cows are milking a little better than for some years past, and if the present How is kept up, it should have a good effect in this district. The Moa Dairy factory has already beaten its best previous record. Some. suppliers from this part have reached four figures, which they have not done before.

I see bv tin advertisement that farmers, if tney allow weeds to flower, are to be considered criminals. What a loi of criminals there will be soon! And the worst of it is that the vJovernmcmis the greatest offender in this respect by allowing weeds to flourish on their reserves.

This reminds me of an article you had in your paper some few days ago in which one of your reporters came across a very pessimistic individual re blackberries. As one who has had to contend with them right from their beginning, I can safelv say there is no great nnsurmountab'e difficulty in eradicating blackberry where the land is ploughable and it is done properly and at the right time of the year. This is enough abouv noxious weeds for the present, but I intend to have more to sav on this important subject on some other occasion.
