NEW P. AND 0. STEAMERS. Mr. E. Trelawny, the superintendent in Australia of the P. and O. Company, is in receipt of 'advices from London in reference to the two new mail steamers which are now being completed for the Australian line. They are of similar type to the present vessels of the "M" class, but of much larger tonnage, and greater power. The first vessel, the Medina, is being built by Messrs. Caird and Co., at Greenock, and the second, the Maloja, by Messrs. Harland and Wolff, at Belfast. Accommodation is provided in each of these vessels for nearly 700 saloon passengers, and in addition to the ordinary berthing arrangements a large number of single berth cabins are provided on the hurricane deck, which is extended to join the forecastle, thus giving a magnificent promenade space. The smoking rooms of these vessels are raised a deck higher than on the present "M" class, and a special feature will be the open verandah smoking rooms at the after end of the promenade decks. These two magnificent liners will probably be finished and in commission in about eighi months' time.
