SOUTH WALES STRIKERS

SOLDIERS IN READINESS. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright. London, November 7. The miners at Clydach prevented the engineers and stokers working, and stoned the police. The situation is serious, and the Army Council has instructed the 18th Hussars to hold themselves in readiness if required.

A CALLOUS PIECE OF WORK. London, November 7. Strikers extinguished the boiler fires at Clydachvale, and stopped the ventilating fans. It is feared that 300- horses in the mine are perishing.

'•'TAKE WARNING." DISPUTE WILL GO TO ARBITRATION. Received 8, 10.55 p.m. London, November 8. Women and girls participated in stoning the police at the Clydahvale pit. There were several ugly rushes, and the mounted police were almost unhorsed. Subsequently the police were reinforced, ! re-lighted the boiler fires, and saved the horses. Thousands of strikers marched to the 1 Cambrian Combines colliery at Rhondda Valley, headed by two men wearing white shirts and halters round their necks, and bearing an inscription, "Take Warning," across their breasts. The police guarding, the colliery were overpowered and two were badly injured. The power station was captured. Subsequently the police were reinforced, and dislodged the strikers. The Council of the South Wales Miners' Federation, Mr. Mabon presiding, rejected the Aberdare deputation's proposal to convene a conference of the whole Federation to consider the best methods of assisting the fight in order to secure redress of grievances. Then followed the deputation's more drastic proposal for a general strike. This was negatived, and the Council merely decided to submit the dispute to the Conciliation Board at Cardiff on Monday.
