STRATFORD DAY BY DAY

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night. Arrangements are being made to,give Father Treacy a reception on his return to Stratford at the > end $f the month. Dust or rain; which is the lesser evil? is what the business people Stratford have been pondering over during the past few days. The northerly wind has carried with it clouds of dust, and the business man is astonished through what small creyices the dust can make its way. The dust nuisance is a difficult one to cope with, and even the aephalti'i" of Broadway, though doubtless mitigating the trouble, will not abolish it. It might be considered a retrograde step to suggest that the side parts of Broadway North, which at. present are dust heaps, pure and simple, should be grassed, since the expense of metalling the street the whole width may be considered put of the question. The planting of trees be beneficial, though in this case suitable trees are required, effective fencing needed, and care taken of tlie trees till they 'nave made a good start. There is s\ limit to good nature and chivalry. At least that is tke opinion of one Stratford resident. His neighbor keeps bees, and to-dnv he saw his neighbor's wife (the husband being at hi* business) trying to handle a swarm. He volunteered his assistance, and though his knowledge of the ways of the '"little busy bee' was but scanty hf. was *rirepave'd''to ; oliev instructions. But the bees did not: approve of the volunteer, and, one getting busv, stung him between the eyes. The swelling has obscured the sight of both eyes, and, in darkness, he wonders if assisting people with bees which sting without provocation is not past the limits of all g«»d nature.
