There should be no necessity to remind people of the big function at "Aotea" on Thursday afternoon. "Aotea" is jmst a beautiful valley, practically virgin bush, with walks cut here ana there—just such a charming glimpse that one might expect when rambling through the bush "away out back." The visitor will see the simple, sylvan beauties to the accompaniment of the strains of Mrs. Woods' orchestra ana the Harrison Band, each with a specia.ly selected programme of music, whilst to crown the enjoyment a strenuous committee of ladies will provide an excellent afternoon tea. There will be races for children, and summer drinks and ice creams galore. The grounds are kindly given for the day by Messrs. Sole Brothers, to whom the Beautifying Association is deeply indebted. The funds raised will be devoted to the further beautification of Marsland Hill and some improvements on Fort Niger. The committee set up by the Egmont and Excelsior lodges of Oddfellows to arrange a social in celebration of the centenary of the Order met last night, and it was reported that the musical programme had been fully arranged, and the supper aiTangements were well forward. There is every prospect of there being a very large attendance of members of these lodges and of visiting brethren. The social is to be held on Thursday evening. The month of November is always a strenuous one with women folks. The holiday season means to them extra summer dresses to be got ready, so days and days are spent at the sewing machine or with the needle fashioning and trimming. Messrs. Morev and So'is, in view of the im-.'eased demand for trimming, timed a supplementary shipment of embroideries to arrive when they would he most wanted.
