INVESTIGATION INVITED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. At a special meeting of the Hospital Committee of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards to-night, it was unanimously decided to recommend that tht resolution of the Board accepting the resignation of the matron of the hospital be rescinded, and that consideration or' the matter be held over, the matron to be granted six months' leave of absence on full pay from the 12th in'st. With reference to the criticism in the l.):i!!y TisiK's of the conditions at tilt lios|'iial. the committee decided to recommend that the Minister be asked to appoint the Inspector-General of Hospitals and a Stipendiary .Magistrate, or such qualified person or persons as the Minister may approve, to conduct an enquiry into the following matters: (1) The number of nurses off duty at present through illness; (2) the statement as to insufficient time for meals; (3; the statements generally as to the quality of the food, cooking and serving; (4) the statement as to nurses being refused leave to visit dying relatives; (5) the amount of lihysical work the nurses are called on to perform;' (0) the statement as to the excessive amount of cleaning nurses are called on to perform on Sunday, and such other matters as the commissioners may deem of vital importance to the management of the institution. The recommendations will come before a special meeting of the Board on Friday night.
