THE ASHBURTON SHOW. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Ashburton, Last Night. The Ashburton A. and P. Show was concluded to-day in fine weather. There was an attendance of about 7000. During the afternoon his Excellency the Governor visited the exhibition, inspected the prize stock, witnessed the competitions, and made a short informal speech on the usual lines at afternoon tea. Lord I Islington was much interested in the | Southdown ram which was awarded the championship in its section and which was bred by his late Majesty King Edward on the Sandringham estate. * THE RHODES SCHOLARSHIP. Auckland, Last Night. Mr. Alfred George Mashall, M.A., at present assistant to the Professor of Mathematics at Canterbury College, was this afternoon selected as Auckland's candidate for the Rhodes Scholarship. Mr. Marshall, who is 22 years of age, has had a distinguished career both in scholastic matters and athletics. „ , i ■ 1 NATIONAL INSURANCE CO. Dunedin, Last Nigh?." The National Insurance Co.'s report for the year ended September 30 shows a net revenue of £144,874. An interim dividend absorbed £7500, leaving a surplus of £28,536. The number of persons who arrived in the Dominion during September last was 2591, and the departures numbered 2259. The figures for September, IDO9, were: Arrivals 2682, departures 23L7.

FLAXMILLERS' ASSOCIATION. Palmerston North, Last Night. The New Zealand Flaxmillers' Association met to-day, and passed the following resolutions: "That this meeting, representing a very large proportion of the flaxmillers of the Dominion, urgently requisitions the Government to reconsider its decision not to give any bonus for machinery inventions,°and further that the executive committe be requested to draw up a workable scheme to place betore the Cabinet, so as to afford it every opportunity to give full consideration to the proposal; that other flaxmillers' associations in the Dominion be communicated with, in order to obtain their assistance in securing the bonus; that the Association favors the scheme of harnessing the Tokomaru or Mangahao strea for obtaining hydroelectric power; and that a committee, comprising Messrs. A. Seifert, Liggins, J. H. Hankins and L. Seifert, obtain the support of other local bodies and take such further steps as may be deemed desirable to forward the scheme. THE HENRY-POTTS MISSION. Wanganui, Last Night. The great united mission of Dr. Henry and Mr. Potts, under the auspices or the Council of the Churches, concluded to-night. It has been a wonderful success, and has made a distinct impression on the religious life of the community. Dr. Henry is delighted, and regards the mission as' one of the very best he has held in the Dominion. He has visited no community which has been more deeply stirred or richly blessed. AYRSHIRE BREEDERS. Palmerston North, Last Night. The following officers were elected at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Ayrshire Breeders' Association to-night: Patron, Mr. A. MeFarlane; president, J. Kyle; vice-presidents, P. Ireland, H. H. Olson, A. C. Johnstone, J. Gait, F. C. Lichfield, Makgill, J. W. Wilkie, W. Cowan, J. Gait, T. Lee. The report stated that more interest had been taken in Ayrshires in the district, and farmers were appreciating the worth or the breed as milkers.
