HYDRO-ELECTRIC WORKS
THE LAKE COLERIDGE SCHEME, T3v Telegraph.—Tress Association. Christchuvch, Last Night.
The Mayor has received an answer from the Minister of Public Works to liis letter with reference to the approximate date of the inauguration of the Lake Coleridge hydro-electrical scheme. The Minister states that he anticipates being able to make a commencement in regard to the scheme almost immediately, so far as the necessary surveys and engineering investigations to locate sites are concerned. It was, however, improbable that any construction works will be put in hand for a few weeks, and, at any rate, not until after Parliament allocates the necessary money. It is understood that the work of erecting a house for the use of the survey and engineering staffs in the vicinity of the probable site of the power house will be put in hand almost immediately. A survey party under Mr. Boyle is going out to the Lake Coleridge district at once, and will survey the line of the race and conduct the borings for the foundations of the power housfj.
