BOOKMAKER FAILS TO PAY OUT. By Telegraph.—Press AssoeiatiMJ. Wellington, Saturday. An alleged welsher named Victor McDuff, alias Robert Walter Watson, was recently arrested at Trenthani racecourse on four charges of alleged theft from persons who had invested wi|h him. One charge was withdrawn by the police and another dismissed because of insufficient evidence. On the other two charges a sentence of one month's imprisonment was imposed. Security for appeal was fixed. Counsel said accused was a man of considerable means.
