STRATFORD DAY BY DAY
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Stratford, Last Night. Though the rain came down in torrents last night, it did damp the enthusiasm of a number of residents who attended the conversazione in the Town Hall in honor of the visit of the president of the Methodist Conference, the Rev. C. 11. Laws. The visitor was welcomed by the Mayor, and was presented with an illuminated address. The Bank of Australasia have purchased a section ill Whangamomona, where they intend erecting a building shortly. The boring of the Whangamomona tunnel is now in some twelve chains from the eastern side. Three offenders against the railway by-laws in crossing the line at the station were before the Magistrate's Court this morning. Two were convicted without a fine, and the third was fined 5s and costs.
