The Alawa, which arrived to-day from New Zealand, encountered a hurricane, and shipped heavy seas, but was undamaged. BURNED IN HIS HUT. Received 27, 9.20 p.m. Sydney, October 27. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Co.'s new steamer Rangitira is ashore in the Brisbane river on the mud. It is hoped to refloat her without damage. Received 28, 12.55 a.m. Brisbane, October 27. The Rangatira has been refloated, nnd has proceeded on her voyage to Melbourne. FRUITGROWERS' CONFERENCE. Received 27, 9.20 p.m. October 27. The Fruitgrowers' Conference resolved not to entertain the Shipowners' Federation's proposal to allow half ullages, considering that shipowners should pay all ullages. A STATE BRICKFIELD. Received 28 r 12.55 a.m. Sydney, October 22. Mr. Griffiths, Minister of Works; is gathering- information with a view of starting Government brickworks and distributing the product on trains at night time. He says the bricks required in various Government departments are sufficient to keep a large works going continuously. The question of supplying bricks to the public will require further consideration, and will largely, depend on whether the alleged combine reduces the price.
