BUSINESS NOTICES.
Miss Cant, well and favorably known in New Plymouth, is about to commence business in Messrs Morey and Moore's building. Miss Cant, who is recognised as one of the best dressmakers in the North Island, will make a speciality of making up customers' own materials at a very reasonable rate. Workmanship can be guaranteed not to suffer by the moderateness of the prices. What woman who is familiar with the famous value-giving nature of the Melbourne's Manchester section could close her eyes to such an alluring opportunity to buy the famous three S drill at many pence less than its actual intended price? And when you learn thau there are only twelve pieces to go at I 0y 2 d a yard the desire to buy must naturally be quickened.—Advt. Yesterday morning, White and Sons landed an additional shipment of costume linens. These are of superior, quality to those opened earlier in the season, and the price for coats and skirts from them is 48s fid complete. Orders are now being booked for December.— Advt. Messrs. Dimock and Co. advertise receiving days for pigs at their various depots for November. The Woodville Bacon Company notify dates on which pigs will be received at their several depots. The tourist season on the Wanganut river has, we are advised, started earlier than usual, and a much larger number of tourists are doing this now favorite excursion than on any previous season at this time of the year. The river at present is seen at its best. From now until January the native flowering trees are in bloom. Just now the wealth of yellow (old gold) kowhai appears to be unusually brilliant in color and in great profusion. The native clematis is also in bloom, as are also the rangiora, ake ake and rama rama. The giant ratas also give signs of early bloom. The pleasure of coursing along the river for upwards of 100 miles with the high hillsides clothed in these beautiful and brillliant New Zealand flowering shrubs, is something to be impressed and live in the memory of those who are privileged to make the trip. We are informed that the wholesale destruction of the Wanganui's magnificent hill-sides has been temporarily checked; but no amending legislation of the Scenic reserves Act has yet appeared as ised.
