OPENED THE PORTMANTEAU
YOUTHS CHARGED WITH FORGERY. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. Robert Ernest Powell and Raymond Saunders, two youths arrested in Christchurch, were charged at the Police Court to-day with forging the name of Eric Walter Arron on a. post office savings bank withdrawal receipt for £B, and uttering the same to Francis Taylor Bennin'gton. Saunders boarded in the same house as Arron, who kept his bank book in a portmanteau, which one of the accused succeeded in opening. Powell forged the signature and offered Saunders half the money, which the latter refused to take. Both accused pleaded guilty, and were committed for sentence. In accordance with the decision of Judge Williams, Saunders was admit l ted te bail, as there was a. reasonable probability that he would be admitted t» probation. <
