PRIMITIVE METHODISM.
TARANAKI DISTRICT SYNOD.
The annual synod commenced its sessions at Fitzroy on Tuesday, ill. K. Pepperell (chairman) presiding. Delegates were present from Stratford, Wanganui, Eltham, Inglewood and New Plymouth. The following oflicers were elected: Chairman, Mr. R. Pepperell: vice-chair-man, Mr. G. Collingwood; secretary. Rev. T. R. B. Woolloxall; assistant secretary, Rev. H. Sharp. The retiring chairman in his address, referred to matters connected with the work of the year.
I Routine and statistical affairs were [ considered and dealt with. It was reported that the Rev. A. Davis had resigned during the year. I The afternoon session was devoted to the discussion of matters appertaining to the several circuits, and recommendations were made to the conference. In the evening a meeting was held in the Fitzroy Church, when, despite the very wet weather, there was a good attendance. The chairman of the district (Mr. R. Pepperell) presided. The speakers were Rev. S. Bailv, of Wanganui, Mr. G. Collingwood, of Stratford, and Mr. Maiden, of Wanganui. Musical items were given In- Miss Bray, Mis 3 Foote, Miss Charteris, Miss Linn, and Rev. H. Sharp and Mr. M. Scott. A pleasant and profitable evening was spent by those present. WEDNESDAY'S SESSION. The synod continued its sessions on Wednesday. A lengthy discussion took place on the following remits from the New Plymouth circuit:— (a) That this Church re-affirm the decision of the Dunedin Conference of 1908 upon the question of Metliodist union, that a letter be sent to the next conference of the Methodist Church of New Zealand informing them of our desire for union and expressing our willingness to enter into negotiations for union, and to confer with any committee they may set up in devising a basis of union for submission to the members through the quarterly boards; (b) That a representative committee be set up to meet and confer with any committee appointed by the Methodist Church of New Zealand in framing a basis of union; (c) That the basis of union when adopted bv the committee be forwarded through the executive to the respective stations prior to the September quarterly meetings, so that the matter may be fully discussed and come up for final set-1 tleinent at the conference of 1912. I
It was unanimously deckled that the remits be sent on for insertion in. the agenda sheet of the 1011 conference. The Rev. B. Metson and Mr. C. E. Bellringer were appointed to the stationing committee.
Kev. S. Bailey, of Wanganui, was recommended to the conference as district representative. Mr. A. Varney was appointed district Sunday School* agent. Wanganui was selected as the place for the next synod. Resolutions were passed dealing with the licensing and gambling questions, also in reference to the opium traffic. Mr. S. B. Maiden, of Wanganui, and W. Gatman, of Inglewood, were recommended to the conference as home missionaries, with a view to becoming candidates for the ministry. ° Votes of thanks were accorded the friends at Fitzroy for their kind provision for the comfort of Mie delegates. The returns presented showed an increase of 2(5 members, one new church erected, and another in course of erection.
