The balloon America 11. lias not been located yet. Searchers have left Toronto on behalf of the St. Louis Aero Club. Milwaukee reports that probably the balloon fell into Lake Superior. New York, October 26. Ralph Johnston beat Drexel's altitude of 7303 feet, and established a new United States record. Johnston aeroplaned in a snowstorm above the clouds, and was frost-covered when he descended. Previously Johnston had ascended to a great height, but forgot his barograph, and the height was not recorded. F. W. Radley, an Englishman, in a Bleriot machine, covered 20 miles across country in 19 minutes 48 2-.isec. The judges believed the chronometers must be wrong, for the speed was so amazing. Latham manoeuvred on the edge of storm clouds. He was in great peril, but the crowds thought he was merely "showing off." He made a rapid descent, and owing to the wind he caught in a tree. The machine was damaged, but Latham was unhurt. AEROPLANES FOR THE WAR OFFICE. Received 27, 1.5 a.m. London, October 20. The Daily Mail states that the War Office has purchased two aeroplanes of the Paulhan and Farman type respectively. AN AIRMAN KILLED. • Received 27, 12.15 a.m. Magdeburg, October 26. Lieutenant Gente, whilst aeroplaning, fell sixty feet and was killed under the machine.
