VESUVIUS CLOUD-BURST.
A STREET OF HOUSES COLLAPSE. VICTIMS AMOUNT TO HUNDREDS. By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright Naples, October 25. Following upon the cloud-burst, torrents of volcanic mud and lava blocks from \ esuvius swept over the circular railway on the mountain, overwhelmed the crops over miles of country, and crushed many houses. A number of bathers perished at Casamiceiola, on the island of Ischia. Many houses were flooded and collapsed at Amalfi, and there was loss of life. Tremendous seas are running in the Gulf of Naples. In the vicinity of the port the inundation undermined a number of houses. Twenty-six bodies have been recovered. Four battleships have been sent to the island of Ischia, which is reported to be partially submerged witli mud 24ft deep. The dead number 200. Rome, Otcober 25. Later reports show that the damage at Casamiceiola (Ischia) is not so great as at first reported. Cetara, however, suffered severely, the victims numbering 200. All the houses in one street collapsed at Majori, and at Salerno twenty were killed.
