SHIPBUILDING IN GERMANY.

Apart from naval work, the German shipyards are at the present time largely occupier in the production of liners of considerable tonnage. The biggest of the vesseis to suffer delay will be the 45,000ton turbine steamer which is being built at the Hamburg yard of the Vulcan Company, of Stettin, for the HamburgAmerican Line. Notl ess interesting is the 9000-ton motor liner, which Messrs Blohm and Voss have in hand for the same owners. Most of the big German steamship companies have liners on the stocks. Some of them say that the orders were given out because prices we.re cheap, rather than because there was immediate need; of new ships. Be that as it may, it means dislocation of plans in their case, as in that of the steel trade.
