TARANAKI EDUCATION BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING, j The monthly meeting of the Taranaki] Education Hoard was held last evening. the following members being present: Messrs J. Wade (chairman), A. Morton. W. L. Kennedy, A. H. Haleombe, G. Rogers, H. Trimble, AY. C. Cargill. G. A. Adlam, and J. Young.

ARCHITECTS' REPORT. Messrs Sanderson and Griffiths, the Board's architects, reported that the Stratford additions contract was completed and the room finished. Final inspection was made this week, and the contractor was entitled to payment. Inspection of the Tarata residence was made on October 10 and the. residence was then ready for occupation. The contractor would be entitled to final payment on November 10. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT. Mr. Wade reported that the following temporary appointments had been made since the" last meeting of the Board: Toko, Miss Eliza Mace, assistant, in place of Miss Coleman, who was granted leave at last meeting; Koru, Miss K. Williams, sole teacher, in place of Mrs. Warner, who is unable to carry on the school for a time; Uruti, Miss M. Rogers, sole teacher, in place of Miss Bichcno, who is on sick leave; Kina, Mrs. Curtis, in place of Mr. Turner, who has been appointed to Tataraimaka. Stratford Truantage— I have conferred with the Truant Inspector re his interviewing the committee when in the Stratford district, but am quite unable to see any benefits to be derived therefrom, though a copy of any paragraph in his report dealing with the Stratford school might be forwarded to the committee. As regards the foreman, I have personally intsructed him to try to confer with the chairmen of committees as far as is possible without loss of time. The various matters of school repairs referred to me by the Board have received attention.

Central School Residence.—l authorised the overseer to carry out a small repair to the floor and "sink. All plans and specifications relating to school buildings are now stored in the Board's office and will be handy for the architects and overseer when required. j The report was approved. ] TRUANT INSPECTOR'S REPORT. Mr. Archie Hooker, Truant Inspector, reported that for the quarter ending September 30 he had issued 60 final notices on parents failing to send their children regularly to school. He had also personally visited a number of parents hi New Plymouth and Stratford, and in the majority of cases he was satisfied sickness was the cause of the non-attendance. He had prepared a number of summonses for failure to send children regularly to school, also one summons for failing to do so after being notified. The last quarter was one of the worst for- several years for the amount of sickness experienced. The report was reecived.

' OTHER REPORTS. Mr. H. Trimble reported that he had visited York School as requested, and he recommended that the committee's proposal be agreed to, as it would be difficult and almost useless to erect the fence on the true line, which ran for some distance along the bed of a creek.—Approved. Mr. Rogers reported in regard to section 17, block 5, Ngatimaru S.D., area seven acres, leased to Mr. E. Upson, on an improvement lease, which expires on December 31, 1910, that Mr. Upton had sold out his property to Mr. Johnson and had left the district. Mr. Johnson was prepared to take over the section, oilering 5s per acre, for a seven years' lease. The section was level and brassed and worth about £5 per acre.—Approved.

FINANCE COMMITTEE'S REPORT.
