Mr. L. J. Steele, chairman of the Fitzroy Town Board, left yesterday morning for Napier, where lie has taken over the lease of an hotel. .Mr, H. S. Fitzherbert, S.M., is at present in Wellington, whither he was summoned owing to the serious illness of his sister. Lieut.-Colonel Bauchop, C.M.G., officer commanding Wellington Military District, who recently underwent an operation, has sufficiently recovered to be able to devote a brief time daily to his duties at the District Defence Office. Miss Gwen St. Clair Chase-Morris, daughter of a Wellington land agent, has been married at Home to Mr. H. H. Vassall, 8.A., who came to New Zealand with the British team, and who is the second son of the late Dean Vassall. While with the team Mr. Vassall played very little, being in indifferent health. Mr. W. S. Fisher, Official Assignee at Dunedin, has been appointed to a similar position at Auckland in place of Mr. Gerard, who recently resigned. Mr. Fisher's place at Dunedin will be filled by Mr. Moore, who will also carry on, as at present, the duties of agent of the Public Trustee. Mr. D. C. Hutton, for many years a familiar figure in Dunedin, died on Fri-. day at Broad Bay, aged 67. He went to Dunedin in 1870 under engagement to the Provincial Council, having been selected in Scotland for the position of provincial drawing master. He established the Dunedin School of Art, which he conducted for many years. On May 19, 1908, after tliirty-eight years' faithful service, Mr. Hutton, owing to failing health, handed his resignation to the Ota'go Education Board, and retired on superannuation.
