INGLEWOOD NEWS.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) ilr. S. Huston's new billiard saloon was opened on Thursday night. The building is of fcrro concrete, and is excellently fitted up inside, and contains two new tables. The whole of the \vork was done by Mr. Huston himself. Refreshments were plentiful, and a most pleasant evening was spent. The properties of Mr. H. Carstens were ottered for sale on Saturday, but were not disposed of. .Mr. Winlicld has, I understand, disposed of his drapery business to Mr. H. Cottier, and his mercery business to Mr. D. Clegg. The Church of England sale of work was concluded on Friday afternoon and evening. There was* a large attendance, in the evening in particular. During the evening Misses Mcßeth and Stevens danced a cachuca and skirt dance, the former receiving a well merited encore. Afterwards Mrs. Jarley presented her world-famed waxworks. Mr. W. J. Matthews, in the role of Mrs. Jarley, was decidedly good, though it cannot be said that lie sunk his identity in the part which he was playing. Of the figures, Mrs. Hine, as Lady Mcßeth, and Miss Vickers, as Rule Britannia, were perhaps the most effective, but where all were of such a high standard of excellence, it is almost invidious to particularise. The following is the list of the figures: Hon. J. G. Ward, Mr. C. 0. Roberts; policeman, Mr. R. D. Rogers; Fat Boy. Mr. A. Matthews; Napoleon, Mr. R. H. C. Moody; Wolfe's Schnapps, I Mr. Hy. R. Billing; Dirty Boy, Master G. Bennett; Robinson Crusoe, Mr. Hine; Rule Britannia. Miss Vickers; Suffragette, Miss Vickers; Bo Peep, Miss Evans; Queen Elena. Miss Lewis; Fail Rosalind, Miss L. Williams; Giantess, Miss Stevens; l'ears' Soap, Mrs. Bennett; Lady Mcßeth, Mrs. Hine. The bazaar was also most satisfactory financially, the takings being about £SO.
Mr. W. Bishop, of Upland Road, escaped what might easily have been si nasty accident on Saturday afternoon. He wits driving past Wilson's blacksmith's shop when the horse took fright at a motor car. Owincr to one of the reins breaking, Mr. Bishop lost control of the horse, which, guided by one rein only, swerved into a vacant section opposite where the trap capsized. Mr. Bishop fell under the trap, lsut escaped with a shaking.
