BETTING PROSECUTIONS. By Telegraph.—Press Associati&n. Auckland, Saturday. At the Police Court Henry Malcolm Nicol, one of the men arrested in the police raid on the premises of Ryan and Degroen, was charged this morning with having betted on a horse race and assisted in the management of a common gaming house. Defendant admitted the first charge, and ,was fined £2O ana costs, the second charge being then withdrawn. MAORI LANDS. Whangarei, Saturday. The Tokerau Maori Land Board, at a sitting just concluded under the presidency of Mr. Dinnie, dealt with sales, leases, etc., to Europeans of an aggregate area of 13,503 acres of land, as follows: Sales confirmed, 3(152 acres; leases confirmed, 25G acres. Resolution:, of the owners to sell, passed by the meetings of the Board previously, were agreed to for COOT acres. Tenders were accepted for leases of sections in Tekarae block for 3(500 acres.
