MOA SCHOOL COMMITTEE

ASSOCIATION The quarterly meeting of the, above Association was held in tin; Inglewoud .school on Tuesday evening last. Delegates were: Messrs Hood and Thomson (Jnglcwood), Hodges and iCJodd (Dudley), ■Slovens and Johnston (Norfolk), Simpson and Hodges (Durham) and Uoldt (Lincoln). Mr. Thomson (Inglewoud) was dueled as president in place of Mr. Whitehead, who resigned oil account of leaving tile district. The minutes of last meeting were read and approved. Apologies l'or lion-attend-auco were read. A reply from the Education Board secretary to a communication as to school paddocks was read, in which the committees interested were referred to clauses li 4 and 05 of the Education Act. With reference to the Association s request that the Education Hoard be asked to make enquiries as to a better method of beating the schools, the secretary stated lie had interviewed several members on the matter and also read correspondence and circulated illustrated pamphlets as to certain appliances which are used for heating public buildings. Mr. .Stevens (Norfolk) considered the replies of those members interviewed very unsatisfactory, and thought the Board's officials were better able to suppl_y or obtain the definite particulars required. A good deal of discussion took place re tile matter. Mr. Simpson (Durham) brought under notice the subject of medical inspection of schools and read a paper showing what is being done in other parts as to inaugurating the system. Mr. Stevens considered the mailer a most important one and heartily endorsed the proposal that a move should be made, and suggested that the secretary write to kindred associations in the South Island for particulars and a motion to that ell'ect was carried. Mr. Boldt (Lincoln) also strongly supported the proposal and said there was not the least doubt that there was urgent need for such inspection being put into operation and would result In incalculable benefit to the "rowing generations. Anotice of motion having the effect of having the matter g'one into more fully at the next meeting was given by Mr. Simpson, and the meeting terminated.
