Dr. Deck, of the South' Sea Evangelical Mission, in a letter, gives an interesting account of a discovery while exploring the island of Guadalcanal" of bones of members of the Austrian scientific expedition under Ha nut von Norbcck. murdered fourteen years ago. The. baron's party included the lirsf, white men to visit the island. While climbing a mountain they were surrounded by hordes nf natives and killed. Afterwards the savages ate five members of the party, including Norbeck and a midshipman named De Beaufort. The bones were found scattered about in overgrown vegetation. One skull showed where it had been pierced by an axe.
