There is a particularly active demand for Taranaki Petroleum Company's preference shares at present, one gentleman yesterday having lodged applications for a further 475, making in all upwards of 700. At No. 5 the re-erection of the derrick is proceeding rapidly, and will be completed next week. \isitors from Dunedin and Auckland, who were on the company's field yesterday, expressed the greatest surprise at the magnitude of the prospects ahead. About JSOO people have visited the company's oilfield during the past six: months. A majority were quite unaware of the extent of the operations, and all are now living advertisements.
