ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY
COUNCIL MEETING. A meeting of the Council of the Taranaki Acclimatisation Society was held oil Tuesday evening, Mr. J. E. Wilson presiding. There were also present; Messrs. A. H. Johnstone, E. Whittle and D. McAllum (secretary).
With reference to the ram authorised at last meeting to be constructed av the hatchery, the chairman explained that in company with Mr. SladUen he had visited the property, and it had been found there was not sufficient space for a tail race, and therefore the idea had been abandoned for the present. A letter was received from the Southland Society asking that all items of interest relating to fishing and shooting should be forwarded for publication in the Southland Times. This was agreed to. A letter was received stating that a society was to be formed in the Waikato, to be known as the Waikato Acclimatisation Society. A letter was read from the Minister of Internal Affairs stating that the society had not complied with the regulations required for registration of the society. The secretary was instructed to reply asking in what particular the rules had not been complied with. The -secretary reported that Messrs. Whittle, JdTinstone, Wigg? and hiiiiself had visited Warea for' the purpose of selecting a site for a rearing pond, and that, this waa. now in readiness for receiving fry. The secretary was instructed to make arrangements for setting the 100 pheasants' eggs obtained from the Wellington Society. The chairman reported that all the fish eggs at the hatchery were hatching out satisfactorilv.
