Miss Browne, matron of the New Plymouth Hospital, received news yesterday from Auckland of the dentil of her mother on Wednesday night, suddenly. Bannister, a well-known resident of Palmerston North, and at one time managing' director of the New Zealand Times, is leaving the district at the end of this month to reside in Melbourne. Mr. M. E. Bannister (son of Mr. R. K. Bannister) will also make his home in the Commonwealth, probably settling in Sydney. Lord Plunket, who has just returned to London from New Zealand, was? received in audience by the King at Balmoral Castle, upon relinquishing his appointment as Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Dominion of New Zealand. His Majesty invested him with the insignia of a Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of St. Michael and St. George. A cable states that the King and Queen have visited Prince Francis of Teck, who is seriously ill. His breathing is less oppressed. A later cable states that Prince Francis of Teck spent a restless day, and that the increase in his strength is not maintained, there being no improvement in his general condition. The King and Queen have consequently postponed their visJt to Wood Norton to meet ex-King Manuel and his mother.
