SHEARING AT GISBORNE. | By Telegraph. —Press Association. Gisborne, October 18. Shearing with non-union Maoris has commenced at three of the largest sheds in the district. Maoris from the Urewera Country were got in last night, and other natives are not allowed to communicate with them, whilst swaggers are being warned off all stations where shearing is in progress. AN INCENDIARY AT WORK. Auckland, Yesterday. Attempts were made to burn down two shops in • the Eden Terrace suburb early this morning. A kit filled with.! light wood saturated with kerosene was found well ablaze by two passers-by 1 in a rpce.». of a doorway of Hutehers', shop. Tlte flames were just lapping the window frames. The threatened conflagration was averted. About the same time another man discovered rags soaked with kerosene on fire in a 'shed adjoining Cole's boot shop. The blase was extinguished with some difficulty.
