LORD ISLINGTON HOUSE-HUNTING. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchureli, Last Night. It is understood that the Governor is experiencing some difficulty in securing a suitable residence in Christchurch or its vicinity. Lord Islington has, however, been offered, and has accepted, the use of Mr. R. lieaton Rhodes' residence, Elmwood, Papanui road, in November. the Socialist party. Christchurch, Last Night. The Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Socialist Party has decided to contest South, East and Avon at the next general elections. A communication has been received from James Thorn, who is at present lecturing in England on behalf of 'Socialists that lie will accept nomination for the Christchurch South seat in the interests of Socialism. ( FRUIT-GROWERS' CONFERENCE. Hastings, Yesterday. The New Zealand Fruit-growers' j Conference opened this morning. The j following associations are represented: North Fruit-Growers (A. Sturgess),| Wlmngarei (Wm. Corna), .Port Albert I Sisson, A. P. Iloskins and H. E. Morgan), Wanganui (Fred. Sisson), Feilding (A. R. Mayo), Stoke (A. G. Best and A. P. Allport), Moutere (H. Holdaway). Motueka district (C. Low). The Agricultural Department is represented by .Messrs, T. A. Kirk, W. A. Boucher, G. E. Campbell and R. R. Cockayne. The delegates and officials yesterday visited the Arataki experimental station, Te Mata vineyards and cellars, and several large orchards. They were also entertained at the residence of the president of the local fruit-growers' association.
