BEAUTIFYING ASSOCIATION.

A meeting of the executive of tlio Beautifying Association was held in tile .Mavor.s room last night. The president (.Mr. (I. Tiich) presided, and there were also present: Messrs. K. C. Hughes, W. D. Webster, E. Sole, Ci. 11. McGahey, F. W. Sandi'ord, K. W. Davies and J. Staples. The executive confirmed the arrangements to hold a big function in aid of j the funds at "Aotea" on November 10. The secretary was requested to write thanking Mrs. Wood and the Garrison, Rand for offers to supply music, to Mr. Hoffmann for offer of loan of piano, and Mr. Oliver's offer of free carting. The president was asked to call a meeting of ladies willing to act on a refreshment committee, the idea being to supply afternoon tea, ice creams, etc. Mr! W. W. Smith's resignation was received, and a resolution was passed regretting his decision and asking him to reconsider it. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the president for his donation of two guineas as a prize for the best design for beautifying Marsland Hill. A credit balance of t'23 3s 4<l was shown, with liabilities amounting to about £lO. It was decided that Mr. Tisch act as treasurer of the Association, and that a I banking account be opened at the Rank, of Xew South Wales. _ I In answer to questions, Mr. Tisch said the' gang of prisoners would sooJf be available again, and steps would be taken j to get the hill in order for the summer season. It,was proposed to proceed immediately with making a flight of steps near the summit of Mars'.and Hill, under the supervision of Mr. Kendall, the borough engineer, who had made an excellent job of laying out the paths, etc.
