IMPERIAL POLITICS.
CHANCELLOR'S PROGRAMME POSTPONED. By Cable.— Press Association.— Copyright Received 16, 5.5 pjn. London, October 15. The meeting Mr. Lloyd-George had arranged to address at Mountain Ash on the 20th inst has been suddenly postponed, the Master of Elibank explaining that it was difficult and undesirable for the. Chancellor to speak at this juncture. This is interpreted in some circles to mean that the Veto Conference has reached a critical, and, perhaps, not unhopeful stage. 'liiS PAYMENT OF POLITICIANS. LABOR TO MAKE A DEMAND. Received 16, 6.15 p.m. London, October 15. Sir Gilbert Parker, in a letter, says it is inadvisable to wholly condemn the payment of professional politicians. Four hundred organisations and two great political parties would deter "carpet-bag-gers." Mr. R. D. Isaacs, a Liberal, speaking at Manchester, said it was not supposed that anyone expects a complete reversal of the Osborne decision, which had closed the door of the House of Commons to the wage-earners. Voluntary collections were unsatisfactory. He would welcome a reduction of election expenses, even making them a public charge. The Labor Party are issuing a manifesto which demands the payment of members, but not a£ an alternative to the reversal of the Osborne decision.
